an open house: front hall & bath

kitchen | family room | back yard | laundry/hall | back bath & bedroom | workroom | living room

So this is what you see if you take a step backwards from where that last bedroom pic was taken, and turn right.

Yes, another fake plant. If it were not fake, it would be dead; no natural light gets to this room.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you with vintage seventies wallpaper, featuring the classic seventies palette of orange, brown, and yellow. Sadly, this palette does not figure into my overall long-term design theory for this room, which as you may begin to suspect features a tropical grotto sort of theme (cf. palm trees).

From standing there in front of the sink, if I simply turn right, this is the view:

Front hallway, lit by bare lightbulb on a chain. Also featuring the telephone shelf, built by grandpa. The first year or two after they moved into this house in 1948, there was no telephone. Now there are two jacks: one here, and one in the familyroom next to the bar.

Matt has a super nifty metal sign reading "BELL TELEPHONE" that came from the old Forbes Field in Philadelphia. You can see part of it behind the fossil fish and grandma's mail. Ideally we'll mount that sign on the wall, and get a telephone that looks kind of old-ish enough to go with the sign, at least sort of.
