an open house: laundry, back hall

kitchen | family room | back yard | back bath & bedroom | front hall & bath | workroom | living room

Now we're back standing inside the sliding glass doors, looking up to the laundry-"room" area. The laundry machines originally lived in the garage, but were set up in here several years ago when my grandparents started slowing down a bit, physically. Before that, it was kind of a miscellaneous music area with an upright piano and guitars in the closet, and the bookshelves.

Oh, and there's an old hi-fi stereo system inside those shuttered cabinets under the bookshelves that can record and play 8-track tapes, among other things, just to give you an idea of the vintage.

one mildly annoying thing about this "room" (it seems not quite a complete room because you can't close it off from the familyroom) is that it has no artificial lighting, just that window and the door. Trying to do laundryish things at nighttime, it's helpful if you've been eating your carrots.

The light in that hall is pretty much all there is, that and the familyroom chandelier. The dark green tiles on the floor show you where the newer (60s add-on) part of the house is, as opposed to the old wood-floored part.
